TUESDAY TOP THREE: Blogs

I really enjoy a good blog. I consider blog reading to be my "smoke break" during the day. It's the time that I can check out for about 5-10 minutes and I often feel better once I get it out of my system. I do not have a lengthy blog-roll because I am very picky about blogs that I follow.

A good blog to me is:
- Consistent posting...4-5 times a week
- Relevant topics. And if they aren't relevant, then they're at least intriguing enough that I want to read them.
- Prefer humorous posts.
- Simple design. I've seen so many blogs that have over-designed themselves and it looks like flowers and streamers have thrown up on my computer screen.
- Pretty pictures.

All that being said, here are the top 3 blogs that I am loving right now...

Dooce.com
This was actually the first blog I started reading and it's actually considered a mommy/lifestyle blog. But it's sooo much more than a mommy blog. It's hysterical. And interesting. And I really like the background story of the blogger*. Basically, she started a blog all the wrong way. Wrote about her job, her family, her religion, every hot topic you could touch on. And it pissed people off. So she got it together and developed the blog differently. Now it's all about her house renovations, her charming children, her dogs, the art she finds on Etsy, funny moments during her day, etc. She's even written a couple of books (which I've read...and they're okay).
*A little background on the blogger. Her name is Heather. She was born in Tennessee. Was raised Mormon. Now lives in Utah and is no longer Mormon. Suffered a serious bout of post partum depression after her first child and had to be committed to a psychiatric hospital. She's gotten better and now chronicles her life on the web...it's a cute blog. Read it.

www.Jennsylvania.com
I posted about this blogger a few posts ago (Jen Lancaster) because like most successful bloggers, she has a couple of books out. Her blog is similar to Dooce.com, but it's a little less polished. She does a fair amount of book giveaways and interacts with her readers a lot through her comment section...which is pretty funny. It's also a humorous lifestyle blog about various things happening in her life. I particularly enjoy stories about her 3 pitbulls. She does a good job of expressing exasperation, love, and humor in her situations with the dogs.

I think the best way to describe this blog is that it's a chick lit book gone bloggy.

www.StyleMePretty.com
To put a little variety in the mix, here is a blog that I am a tiny bit obsessed with. And it's a wedding blog. I've had a couple of friends get engaged recently and I think as soon as I said Congratulations! I made them visit this blog. I'm not engaged / married, but I could look at this blog all day. Everything on it is so pretty and inspirational. (Inspirational because it makes me wish I were a more arts and crafty style person). Some of the brides on this blog take DIY very seriously.

It's also a good gauge on what current wedding trends are right now. Right now it seems like everyone is doing mustaches or lips on a stick for funny pictures, or holding up a string of letters that spell out "Just Married", or showing off funky socks (groom) and colored shoes (bride).

I used to think my favorite part of this blog was the actual wedding dress spying that I could do. But now I think it's the flowers. The different textures and color combinations that are made are really amazing.

Peek around the blog for a bit and feel the inspiration start to seep into your brain.
