Digital Book Club

One of my work-friends (shout out to Candice M!) and I have started our own little Digital Book Club. It actually first started pre-Kindle after I discovered Candy had an appreciation for post-apocalyptic books and I introduced her to The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games set the tone for the style books we would read. For some reason the books we've read together have always gravitated towards the creepy and dismal. There were the man-eating vampires in The Passage / Justin Cronin. Then there was the creepy man in Room (Emma Donoghue) who forced a girl to live in a shed in his yard. After that, I tasked her with reading one of my favorite epic novels (Under the Dome by Stephen King) about a giant bubble landing on and causing strife in Small Town USA. Side note: she didn't like this book. I almost de-friended her because I really enjoyed this book.

After reading all those uplifting books (insert sarcasm), we decided to perk it up a notch.  Now we're reading Swamplandia! by Karen Russell. We're both in the early stages of the book so it's too early to tell how it will go - but the story is about an alligator theme park so maybe someone's head will get bitten off and that will take us back to the dark side.
